Track 1: Sin, Death, Suffering, Disease In This World! WHY? Is There Any Escape?

Sin, Death, Suffering, Disease In This World!

Is There Any Escape?

Why is there sin, ungodliness, death, disease and suffering in the world? Did God want sin in his creation? Why is man sinful?

Are you beginning to ask these questions, or have you been asking these questions for some time now? Does your heart, conscience and mind sense that there is more to your existence and man’s existence then just physical matter? Does the idea of there being only physical matter and nothing else leave you with a hopeless and empty feeling, that you as a person are as useless and purposeless as dust being swept out of a house? The Bible reveals why our hearts sense that something is wrong in the world, where sin, death, suffering and disease came from and the cure for the feelings of uselessness and purposelessness.

But, first let take a look at two popular religious/philosophical worldviews that promote and amplify this emptiness: naturalism and materialism.

For nearly 100 years the high priests of naturalism and materialism, who control the curriculum of government public education, have been propagating these worldviews in the science classes. This stealth propagation primarily occurs through the teaching of what is commonly called evolution. Naturalism and materialism are the foundational religious/philosophical worldviews that are used to interpret scientific evidence in a way that supports the hypotheses of evolution of all life from a puddle of soup over hundreds of millions of years. These high priests of naturalism and materialism have went so far as to define science to be based on naturalism; they often call this new definition of science scientific naturalism or methodological naturalism.

Metaphysical naturalism is a philosophical/religious worldview that has two starting axioms (presuppositions or biases); which are: (1) that there is no supernatural (god) and supernatural creation and (2) that the natural physical world, as explained by scientific laws, is all that exists. Its cousin, materialism, is a philosophical/religious worldview that has two starting axioms (1) that matter is the only reality and (2) that things like thought, will and feeling can be explained in terms of matter interactions. There is a third cousin to naturalism called scientific naturalism (or methodological naturalism) which is a belief that science should be approached from the perspective of naturalism; that is, we should pretend that God, the supernatural, does not exist when we approach science. To a person who wants to include all logical possibilities when investigating evidence and data, methodological naturalism is an irrational arbitrary assumption that severely limits scientific investigations. Christianity has as its starting axiom (presupposition, bias), which it gets from the Bible, that there is only one eternal supernatural intelligent designer/creator, the God described in the Bible. Because of the starting presuppositions of naturalism and materialism, they are forced to develop an origin story (hypotheses) of evolution which has raw elements through time and random chance combining to form simple organic compounds eventually forming more complex compounds that through more time and random chance eventually form a living cell. The first cell through even more time, random chance and death formed all the different kinds of living things we see today. This man made origin account has hundreds of millions of years of death occurring before man evolved into existence. On the other hand, the Bible reveals that God created the earth and universe in six 24 hour days only about 6000 years ago; and that death only started occurring because of God’s curse upon Adam, Eve and the universe as punishment for the sin that Adam and Eve committed.

The unproven blind chance naturalistic/materialistic evolutionary hypotheses of the origin of life (evolution) can not rationally account for the origin of the complex specified code/information systems (like DNA code/information, epigenetic code/information and splicing code/information) in the genetic systems of cells in living organisms because operational science reveals that the only known source of code/information is from an intelligence (intelligent being), not from random chance and time. Nor can the blind chance naturalistic/materialistic evolutionary hypothesis rationally account for the origin of the non-physical realities of the laws of logic and reasoning found in mankind, since the major presupposition in naturalism and materialism is that only physical elements are all that exists; this renders naturalism and materialism to be internally contradictory and self refuting philosophies. From a biblical perspective, sinful man must depend upon and use the God given capacities of logic and reason to develop these internally self refuting philosophies of naturalism and materialism. That the God of Christianity described in the Bible is described as an intelligent designer/creator which is the ultimate source of code/information, intelligence, logic, reason and design capacity does rationally account for these non-physical realities. The God of the Bible incorporated all these non-physical realities into a special physical creature that He created, that is man. However, God did not give man the capacity to create things out of nothing, like He can. God gave man the ability to think and reason using His laws of logic so that man could communicate with Him, be able to fulfill His command to have dominion over all the earth and rule over all the other creatures God created (Genesis 1:28) and to be able to intelligently and logically do scientific research and come to some understanding of how God’s creation operates. These God given capacities of intelligence, logic, reason, conscience and design capacity enables mankind to observe God’s creation and understand His invisible attributes, power and divine nature. Also, these capacities enable mankind to sense that sin, death, suffering and disease are indications that something is wrong with the world (Romans 1:19-20). God’s written word, the Bible, reveals to mankind who the only true God is and many details about Him. If our minds are the result of time and random chance, no person can be trusted to be reasoning logically at all. From a biblical perspective, the ultimate source of the logic and reasoning ability in man is not time and random chance, but the supernatural intelligent designer/creator God of the Bible.

In naturalism and materialism, there is no ultimate authoritative source to define good and bad (sin/evil), since they define everything to be random results of time and chance; therefore, every person decides what is good and evil. In Christianity, the ultimate authoritative source to define good and bad (sin/evil) is the God that is described in the Bible; and God has revealed to mankind the definitions of good and bad (sin/evil) in the Bible.

The idea of random results of time and chance in naturalistic, materialistic evolution has moved many people of our era to take the next step beyond to a philosophy of post-modernism that states that there is no ultimate truth and concludes that good, bad and truth are relative depending on circumstances, persons, cultures, etc. Post-modernists state as a truth that there is no ultimate truth; this statement is self contradictory, self refuting.

God created everything; and everything was good, perfect and without sin and corruption!

The God described in the Bible — the only true God, the only eternal God (without beginning or ending), the only intelligent/designer creator and eyewitness to His creation acts of creating the earth, all that is in and on the earth, and all of the universe — revealed to man his historical creation account in the Bible. According to the historical accounts in the Bible, God’s creation of the earth, the universe and life on earth occurred approximately 4000 B.C..

God created everything in six twenty-four-hour days (Genesis 1:1; Genesis 1-2:25; Exodus 20:11). During DAY 1 (Genesis 1:1-1:5), God created the heavens, a formless earth covered with water, and He created light coming from an unknown source. During DAY 2 (Genesis 1:6-1:8), God separated the water with an expanse forming waters above the expanse and waters below the expanse, and called the expanse heaven. During DAY 3 (Genesis 1:9-1:13), God gathered the waters below the expanse into one place and let the dry land (called earth) appear. He than made the dry land bring forth vegetation, plants and trees. During DAY 4 (Genesis 1:14-1:19), God made the sun, the moon and the stars. The sun rules the day and the moon the night. The sun, moon and stars were made for signs to mark seasons, days and years. During DAY 5 (Genesis 1:20-1:23), God created the living creature kinds (both small and huge) that live in the waters and the creature kinds (both small and huge) that fly in the sky (the expanse). During DAY 6 (Genesis 1:24-2:1; 2:18, 21-25), God created all the animal kinds, including the small and huge dinosaur kinds, that live on the dry land (earth) and the first human kind, Adam and Eve. God created Adam and Eve in His own image (especially the reasoning, logic and emotional capacities) so that man could fellowship with Him and obey His command to rule over all the earth and the creatures that He had created. With the creation of Adam and Eve, God established marriage as being between a man and a woman; and commanded them to multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it. God gave the plants to man and animals for food; man and animals were originally vegetarians. DAY 7 (Genesis 2:2-2:3), on day seven, God rested from, or stopped, His work of creation. In Exodus 20:11, it states “For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.” God (the only supernatural intelligent designer/creator) called all that he had created during those six days very good, indicating there was no sin, death, disease and suffering in his original creation; Adam and Eve were without sin.

OK! The original creation was without sin and corruption. So, how did sin, death, disease and suffering enter into man kind, the world and the universe?

In the perfect and good creation, that God had created, He placed Adam and Eve in a special garden in Eden to cultivate it and keep it (Genesis 2:15). God commanded them that they could eat from any tree in the garden (Genesis 2:16); but they were not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:17). If they sinned by eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they would die spiritually (separated from God) and physically begin dying and would die (Genesis 2:17). Satan, indwelling a serpent, spoke to Eve; and he deceived Eve into sinning by eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; and she gave some to Adam to eat; and Adam also willingly ate it (Genesis 3:1-6). Then their eyes were opened and they became aware of the sin they committed and the sin nature they obtained by eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 3:7) – they are now corrupted with a bipolar fallen nature, having one pole evil and the other pole good both pulling on their free wills (hearts). Because God is a holy, just and loving God, He then judged the serpent and cursed him more than the cattle and the beasts of the field (Genesis3:14), and God cursed Eve and Adam with suffering and eventual physical death (Genesis 3:16-24). However, in Genesis 3:15 God promised that some day He was going to send a Savior, the “seed of a woman,” to “bruise” the head of the serpent. God now had cursed His perfect recreation; and sin, death, disease and suffering now had entered man kind, the world and the universe because of Adam’s and Eve’s sin (Romans 8:19-23). Because of Adams sin, all of his descendants (that includes you and I) are born with a bipolar fallen nature of good and evil (Galatians 3:22; Romans 3:23) (meaning no person can live a perfectly good life) and as a result are under God’s condemnation (Romans 5:18-19) and destined for eternal punishment (Matthew 25:46) in the lake of fire, called the second death (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:14-15; Revelation 21:8). To escape this eternal punishment, we must have our sins forgiven by receiving (believing, trusting in) Jesus Christ as the perfect sacrifice for our sins (John 3:15-18, 36).

A couple more major historical judgments of sinful mankind that impacted history.

According to Genesis chapters 6 through 10, during the next approximately 1650 years following the week of creation, almost all of mankind became extremely wicked. This grieved God very much causing Him to decide to blot out man, animals, creeping things, and birds from the face of the earth — to destroy all life on land “in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life” — by a global flood in the days of Noah. However, “Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” God chose to save Noah and his wife, his three sons and their wives, some representative animal kinds and representative bird kinds on a huge ark. This world wide flood lasted about one year.

The creatures on dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life that were not on the ark were destroyed by the world wide flood and quickly buried in sedimentary layers laid down by this world wide flood. Since they were buried rapidly, they were able to be fossilized with excellent preservation. The natural slow burial processes we usually observe today does not account for the excellent fossilization that is observed in the majority of the fossil layers. The sedimentary layers display rapid sedimentation with hardly any significant time elapsing between layers for any kind of significant normal life to occur; in fact, rarely is there any normal long term life evidenced in the sedimentary layers. Any life processes that are found are only short term life that is trying to escape the rising flood waters. The majority of the different fossil layers are not the result of millions to hundreds of millions of years of evolutionary change, but are basically the result of different ecological zones being buried at different times during the year long flood, by flood currents coming from different directions at different times during the rising flood waters due to uplifting and sinking in different areas of the continental land mass as the over all continents sank and by the different areas of the ocean floor rising and sinking at different times during the overall rising of the ocean floor. Also, any large releases of subterranean water would cause burial of different ecological zones at different times during the world wide flood. During the last half of the year long flood (approx. 150 days), the ocean floors lowered to approximately their basic level of today and the continents rose to somewhat of their present heights. During this last 150 days of the flood, much of the top strata layers laid down by the first 150 days of the flood was striped off by the receding flood waters and redeposited in new layers in different locations. This receding flood waters caused large areas of sheet erosion and left large erosional channels when the water level became low enough to not support large area sheet erosion.

For decades, since carbon-14 (using certain assumptions) was found to be useful for dating organic material, the organic materials in fossils like coal and wood from every Phanerozoic record, layers that are conventionally dated by uniformitarian evolutionary methods to be 1-500 million years old, have been dated by the carbon-14 method giving an average date of around 50,000 years. Because these dates are inconsistent with the dominate naturalistic worldview, the evolutionary controlled scientific community does not accept these values as valid and has not been aggressively publishing these dates to the general public. They side step these problem dates by saying that fossils like coal and wood have been contaminated by carbon-14 causing them to give dates that average around 50,000 years, even though they do not have any proven proof of how they got contaminated. According to the millions of year naturalistic evolutionary story, carbon-14 should have all decayed away, since radioactive carbon-14 has a half life of only about 5730 years. There should be no detectable carbon-14 left in any of the organic material in fossils after 100,000 to 1,000,000 years.1 In fact, carbon-14 measurements on four different types of dinosaur bones have yielded an average date of 24,216 years when using the modern C14/C12 atmospheric ratio as the initial ratio for the calculations, which is the C14/C12 ratio the uniformitarian evolutionary establishment uses.2 These numbers (50,000 and 24,216 years) are much more consistent with the Biblical global flood account that destroyed most of the air-breathing life on earth only a few thousand years ago. If a corrected lower C14/C12 ratio is used, as would be expected to exist before the flood, these average time calculation results would be lower and even closer to the time line seen in the Bible (of approximately 6,000 years ago).

After Noah’s family and the animals left the ark, they reproduced and repopulated the earth. Man kind genetically diversified from these eight people into the many different people groups we have today. This diversification occurred as a result of God’s created/designed genetic code/information limited variation systems. However, some genetic variation occurs because of genetic mutations. Mutations are the result of God having cursed His perfect creation because of Adams sin. The animal kinds and bird kinds that got off the ark also reproduced, diversified and repopulated the earth also as a result of God’s created/designed genetic code/information limited variation systems, with some variation occurring by genetic mutations. It should be pointed out that the variations made by the genetic code/information systems or genetic mutations never changes one kind of creature into another kind of creature. This fact is clearly seen by the fact that in the dog kind the variations made by the genetic code/information systems or genetic mutations has created many varieties of dogs. All these dog varieties are still dogs (the dog kind). The variations made by the genetic code/information systems or genetic mutations do not change one kind into another kind of creature, it just cause variations within the different kinds of creatures. The variations made by the genetic code/information systems or genetic mutations will not change the dog kind into a cat kind or horse kind. Because of the variation systems that God had designed into living organisms, which caused speciation in each of the kinds of organisms to occur after they left the ark, indicates that God must have chosen representatives from each kind to take on the ark; thus, reducing the number of animal and bird kinds he needed to take on the ark. By doing that, God limited the size of the ark to only 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits high (approx. 450x75x45 feet) with three decks. God did not need to take every species that we have today on the ark, because the limited genetic variation system that God designed into living organism produced the species that we see today in each animal kind taken on the ark. The Biblical kind seems to be equivalent to our modern taxonomic ranking of genus, and in some cases as high as family.

The second major historical judgment by God occurred in a plain in the land of Shinar (Genesis chapter 10). Again it resulted because of the sin of man at that time. In Genesis 9:1 God commanded Noah and his sons to “be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth”. Mankind sinned by only settling in the plain of Shinar and not scattering out across the face of the earth and filling the earth (Genesis 11:1-9). Because of their pride, they built a tall tower there to make a name for themselves, instead of scattering across the face of the earth as God had commanded. God’s judgment upon sinful mankind at this times was to confuse them by causing different languages to be spoken by the people. Many groups of the people there could not now understand other groups of people. This confusion caused the many different language groups to scatter out across the face of the earth as God originally commanded them to do after exiting the Ark. Linguists today can trace the language history of present day languages back to around the general area surrounding Shinar.

Salvation from eternal condemnation.

Because of Adams sin, all of his descendants (that includes you and I) are born with a sinful bipolar fallen nature of good and evil (Galatians 3:22; Romans 3:23) and (meaning no person can live a perfectly good life) and as a result are under God’s condemnation (Romans 5:18-19) ; that is, after being resurrected, we are destined for eternal punishment (Matthew 25:46) in the lake of fire, the second death (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:14-15; Revelation 21:8). Salvation from eternal condemnation means we will eternally live with our God and our savior Jesus Christ in a new resurrected incorruptible body (free from sin and death) in a new incorruptible new heaven (that is, an incorruptible new universe) (Revelation 21:1-27) and on a new incorruptible earth forever if we have repented of our sins and sinfulness and have had our sins forgiven through faith/belief in Jesus Christ as the perfect sacrifice for our sin (Mark 1: 15; 6:12; Acts 3:19; Acts 17:30; Acts 19:4 Romans 10:8-17; John 3:15-18, 36; 6:29; 8:24; Ephesians 2:4-10). The new earth and new heaven (that is, an incorruptible new universe) will be free of the corruption which was caused by God’s curse upon man and the universe because of Adam’s sin in the Garden of Eden.

To provide salvation for man, Christ, the Son of God, became flesh (2 John 1:7; John 1:14), became a sinless man without a sin nature, through a supernatural conception by the Holy Spirit in a virgin named Mary (Isaiah 7:14: Matthew 1:18-23; Luke 1:35). As a sinless man, Christ could be the perfect sacrifice/substitute for the sins of all mankind; and that is exactly what He came into the world to do (John 3:17; 2 Corinthians 5:21). Christ bore the penalty for our sins as the perfect sacrifice by dying and shedding his blood on the cross. He died for our sins, was buried, and rose from the dead on the third day (1Corinthians 15:3-4). His resurrection proves he has power over death, and that He was the perfect sacrifice necessary to cleanse/forgive men of their sins. Forty days after His resurrection (Acts 1:1-12), the resurrected Jesus went up to heaven (Acts 1:9-12) where He is now seated at the right hand of God the Father (Ephesians 1:20-23); and He is now interceding for believers (Hebrews 7:25).

How could God have infinite authority, righteousness and justice and also have infinite love and mercy at the same time!? This is demonstrated/resolved by God providing a perfect substitute to suffer our punishment of death in our place (Isaiah chapter 53). God provided a fully human substitute for us (Hebrews 2:14-17) that was perfectly sinless (Hebrews 7:27). Also, the substitute (Jesus, the Christ, the second person of the trinity) was fully divine which enabled Him to endure God’s infinite wrath.

What must I do to be saved?

First, the Bible states that salvation is only through Jesus Christ, not in any other. Acts 4:12 states, “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” John 14:6 states, that Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” Second, the Bible states that salvation is not obtained by our works, even if they are good works, works of the law (Roman 4:1-25; Ephesians 2:8-10; Romans 3:27-28), church membership, water baptism, sacraments or any religious works. A person, of his own free will, needs to repent of his or her sins and sinfulness and believe on Jesus Christ to have their sins forgiven by God and be saved unto eternal life (Mark 1: 15; 6:12; Acts 3:19; Acts 17:30; Acts 19:4 Romans 10:8-17; John 3:18; 6:29; 8:24; Ephesians 2:4-10).

Our life after being saved.

Because a person, of his own free will believes the gospel message, and repents of his sins or her sins and sinfulness and believes in Jesus Christ as their sacrifice and propitiation for his sin or her sins, God forgives them all their sins. At the point of this true free will decision to have faith in Jesus Christ, the person becomes indwelt by the Holy Spirit (therefore born again) (John 3:1-21; Galatians 3:14; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 6:19; 12:12-13; Ephesians 1:13-14). Due to a person’s free will repentance, free will faith and the indwelling Holy Spirit of God, an even stronger thirst/desire to live a Godly lifestyle begins and continues to grow stronger as the Holy Spirit convicts the new Christian about the sin in his or her life. Not only does God give us eternal life, we are also created, born again (that is, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit), in Christ Jesus to do good works in this present life (Ephesians 2:8-10). The Holy Spirit will also help, strengthen and encourage a Christian in living a godly life and helps him or her to better understand the instructions and commands that Jesus Christ has given us in the Bible (Romans 8:9-17; Galatians 5:16-26; John 14;15-17; 2 Corinthians 3:16-18; Hebrews 13:6).

After being saved, Jesus wants us to publicly declare our faith in Him verbally and by being baptized (Matthew 28:18-20). He also wants Christians to assemble with other Christians in a Bible-Believing Churches to worship God and to study the Bible with other Christians (Heb10:23-25; Acts 2:41-42). Jesus wants us to pray and talk to God as often as we can, bring all our troubles, desires, needs and praises to God (1 Thessalonians 5:17; Luke 5:16; 6:12; 9:18; James 5:16-18; 1 John 5:14-15). Also, as part of living the Christian life, we are to witness to the unsaved to teach them about repentance (Luke 24:47) and the gospel (Mark 16:15) so they know how to be saved (which is a part of God’s work in drawing mankind to Christ – John 6:44).
